Antique Questions - O
My Grandfather gave my Mother this oriental statue before he passed away. We have no idea who the statue is or where it came from. If you can help us out that would be great.
I have an Oriental Water Sprinkler, my mother gave it to me. Still has the original metal sprinkler and cork...mint condition. Can't find any place on the internet that gives the value. Can you help?
Your best bet is to contact someone who is knowledgeable about Orentialia. Some sources are:
Art Institute of Chicago
E-mail: webmaster@artic.edu
Web Site: www.artoc/edi/aic/
Asian Art Museum of San Francisco
E-mail: info@asianart.org
Web Site: www.asianart.org
You need to send a good photo that shows the object's face, along with any markings that might help to identify it.
The best place to find prices is in a price guide book, i.e. a general book like Kovels or Schroeder's or a specific book on the pottery maker, etc. You can buy one at a book store on online at www.collectorbooks.com or check one out at your local library.
The 2003 Schroeder's Antiques Price Guide, page 114, lists the current value at $45 for a complete one in excellent condition.
