Antique Questions - M

How long have Maytag washers been around?

A friend of mine recently got two antique riding mowers, a Bolens and a Sears, and would like some information, if possible.  They are all original and run good.  Any info or where I might get info would be great.

I have been looking for information on the Cunningham Sickle Bar Mower.  Like what year they were made and anything else that you about it.  Are they worth very much?

How long have Maytag washers been around?

Maytag was founded in Newton, Iowa by Fred Maytag in 1893.  Fred made farm tools and then, in a eureka moment, he produced an innovative wooden tub washing machine in 1907.  His designs helped the company become a staple in home appliances for the next century.  In 2005, Maytag fended off bids from an New York investment group and a Chinese bidder before selling to rival appliance-maker Whirlpool Corp., based in Benton Harbor, Michigan.                                                  Source:  The Daily Progress, Charlottesville, VA,, December 23, 2005

We have a wooden Maytag and a later model on display, both powered by Maytag gas engines. We also have several Maytag washers from the 1930s - 1940s for sale.

I have been looking for information on the Cunningham Sickle Bar Mower.  Like what year they were made and anything else that you about it.

Cunningham started in 1838 near Albany, NY.  They had a foundry and produced Farm Equipment.  They were Custom Coach builders and later Custom Auto Bodies.  They produced the Cunningham Automobile, a large impressive car.

In the 1950s Briggs Cunningham raced and drove a Briggs Cunningham Sports Car powered by a Chrysler Hemi and later won 2nd at Lemans.  Briggs died in a sports car race.  Cunningham is in business producing custom cars, $200,000+.

Your mower is a rare piece of history introduced in 1949, priced at $149 and powered by a Clinton Engine.
