Car Questions - N

I am trying to find out more about the National.  I am not sure when exactly it was made somewhere between 1904 to 1928.  The car is just called the National nothing else.  The company was called the Poertner Motor Car Co.

I am trying to find out more about the National.  I am not sure when exactly it was made somewhere between 1904 to 1928.  The car is just called the National nothing else.  The company was called the Poertner Motor Car Co.

The National was made in the U.S. from 1900 - 1924. The company, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, was renamed several times but was never known as the Poertner Motor Car Co.

In 1900 it began as the National Automobile & Electric Vehicle Co. That same year the name was changed to The Nation Motor Vehicle Co. and in 1916 it was changed again to the National Motor Car & Vehicle Corp.

There was a Porter steam car made by the Porter Automobile Co. in Boston Mass. from 1900 - 1901, and a high priced luxury car named the Porter, made from 1919 - 1922 by the American & British Manufacturing Corp. in Bridgeport, Conn.

I could not find any record of a Poertner Motor Car Co. You might contact the Antique Automobile Club of America, www.aaca.org to see if they have any helpful information.
