![]() ![]() Christmas Greetings from a B-24 Tail Gunner
The year is 1942.
The War in the Atlantic is raging.
Shipping loses are the highest of the war.
Winning the battle of the North Atlantic is a must for Victory.
The aircraft is a B-24 Liberator, flying the North Atlantic.
The young Airman is Phil Davis of Keyser, West Virginia from the Central panhandle.
Phil Davis was the tail gunner. His crew flew the "Milk Run" from Iceland to England.
Their mission: search and destroy Nazi U-boats and Wolf Packs.
Tail gunners were not high on the survival list during bad times.
Phil Davis survived, returned to his home, married his Sweetheart, raised a family, and was a highly respected citizen.
We owe a great deal to the fine men and women who served or country.
This could be a very different Christmas had it not been for them.
Wishing you and yours the best of the Holidays.
This Christmas card is GI Issue.
