Lawn Mowers
Cunningham
Established in 1838, Cunningham offered "Portable Power Tools." This 3-foot mower was designed for fence rows, roadsides, lawns, parks and railroads. Both the mower and the Cunningham High Clearance Garden Tractor advertises a detachable engine, a "motor that moves to the tool."
Introduced in 1949, the Sickle Bar Mower "is powered by a 1 1/2 h 4-cycle gasoline engine and has a low center of gravity," according to an advertisement at the time.
"By introducing this new model," writes Peter Cunningham, sales manager, "we have brought the price of a sickle bar mower down so low that nobody who really needs this type of mower can afford to do without one. Yet, through manufacturing efficiencies and new design features, we are able to give buyers a high-quality, thoroughly dependable machine which handles easily and can be used over rough ground and slopes."
"It is expected that the new mower will be popular on farms to cut along fences and beneath electric fence lines, in orchards, on poultry ranges as well as for cuting lawn, the manufacturer states. In addition, it is useful on large or small estates around institutions, in parks, cemeteries, airports, summer camps, along highways and around suburban homes."
