1967 Citreon DS-21, 4 Door, White, $750.00
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Michelin, which purchased Citroen in 1934, invented the world's first composite road wheel. The SM, which followed the DS, was the first car to use the composite, or carbon resin (plastic) wheel. The first wheels produced, suitable for rally conditions, were called the Michelin RR (for roues resin) and used only a little bit of steel for reinforcement at the mounting holes. They first raced in 1971. At 9.5 lbs., they were half the weight of a stock steel wheel. Production of the wheels ended with the production of the SM in 1975. Michelin produced some more in the mid-1980s. Prices for a set of the rare resin wheels can run around $7,000 today.
